I think this is the most exciting artwork I have created....(collaboratively with my friend Hannah Ryan who is a far more sophisticated photographer than I am). These 2 photographs were accepted as Public Art pieces for the "Lift" project in Dandenong. Wow, I got an Encouragement award at the Oak Hill Gallery - with a cheque attached. The universe is very definately pushing me in the printmaking direction.....................
Wow, what a week, in fact the next 2 weeks are full on with 4 exhibitions of my work! Plus my public art project has just been installed.......Kicked off with the Toyota Community Spirit Gallery Emerging Artists exhibition opening on Wednesday where I was privileged to have "Danger" from my Linesman body of work selected to hang with 50 other selected artists. - there were over 300 applicants, so not bad I say! Amazing building, amazing gallery space and up on show until the end of June. Karen and I opened "Watching" at B'artiste on Friday night. This is my new body of work based on the Burlesque drawing and painting sessions. Wonderful, wonderful, packed the bar out, big smiles all round and RED DOTS! (for both of us!!!) One of the local rags' photographers turned up and whilst chatting to some unfamiliar faces, discovered that they had read about the opening in either another local paper, the library or website, so, pleased that my marketing attack has worked a little. Later today after Andrew and I have had our Swing Dance lesson........another opening at Oak Hill Gallery, which is the Artists run gallery supported by the local government. This is a dedicated printmakers exhibition, working with traditional printmaking methods. (that is a whole other rant, traditional methods being hung alongside digitally manipulated images, I cannot see how they can be compared together blah!) I have entered my folio, great opportunity to show a whole heap of work. This is the one where they chose another "Liney" image for the front of their invitiation. Awesome. My friend Wendy was telling me that she has seen and recognised my invitations in various places around the peninsula. Appreciative! and on the 12th of April, my very first solo show opens with the Liney body of work, up in the city at a very groovy little bar called The Workshop which has an industrial kind of decor - the Liney work will look fab there. And I do love a city bar!!!
Its' such a lovely feeling having my work out there. I think I finally have found the perfect job - I get to be in a creative headspace constantly, and I get to orchestrate visually tempting splendours for bunches of people in great spaces ... and I really am enjoying the challenge of marketing effectively, mmmmm something to build on methinks!!! |
